The Wines of The West weekend at The Carrington (24/25 January) was an enjoyable occasion. It was Boree Lane Wines’ first appearance so it was a learning experience for us that was made much easier due to the very helpful hotel staff and the organising team. A big thanks to Maya, Andrew, Janet and their supporters. The setting in the grand atmosphere of the period Dining Room with its high ceiling, columns and large tableware cabinet presented the wines in style. Our wines were appreciated by a good number of enthusiastic wine tasters and the feedback was very encouraging.
Carmel did a sterling job helping behind our table and after a busy Saturday it was a pleasure to retire to our room after a lovely pizza (great thin base with really fresh topping) at the hotel’s lively Brasserie in the old bank building. We awoke to see the fantastic view to Mount Solitary in its beautiful valley setting refreshed for another day serving wine.
The Carrington is a wonderful historic building with its late Victorian architecture and interiors. There are many reminders of its 20th century attraction for holiday makers, sports groups, honeymooners, etc. creating a unique atmosphere. Congratulations are due to the owners for their support of the Central Western area, promoting its attractions for tourists, its produce and its wines.
